Using Typekit for beautiful fonts on the web!

Screen shot 2010 10 25 at 2.28.16 PM Using Typekit for beautiful fonts on the web!

Typekit features a wide-variety of faces for headlines, body copy and illustrative areas

Here at GCI we’re big fans of typography. For the longest time using great and unique fonts on the web was totally impossible unless you wanted to make them into an image (which is bad for SEO).

Enter: Typekit

Typekit is a slick way of inserting fonts for use on the web without infringing type foundries rights, and maintaining good SEO.

With just a couple lines of javascript code and a bit of simple setup on typekit’s site you can replace entire swaths of text on your website with a font from their extensive (and growing) library of available faces.

We’ve used Typekit on the PaperStone website and our new website design (notice the condensed sans-serif you’re reading right now). There are a couple new sites coming down the pipes using it too!

It probably doesn’t get many excited to talk about fonts. But hey, we’re excited and it’s just another way GCI is keeping our clients on the leading edge of web technologies and elegant design.

GCI’s got a new website, huzzah!

GCI has always encouraged our clients to keep their websites fresh and current. You may have noticed we practice what we preach!

bye old website GCIs got a new website, huzzah!

A little over a year ago we completely redesigned our website, wrote new content and were really happy with the results. But as time marches forward (on the web it actually sprints) it came to be time to begin anew. We went through an extensive brain storming process (pictured) and every member of the team had a chance to weigh-in on the new restructuring and design.

Some highlights…

  • Tight social media integration with a real-time twitter feed and prominent social networking buttons
  • Massive portfolio upgrade and restructuring, now featuring 28 clients with most of them having multiple projects associated with them
  • Blog overhaul (you’re on it now, how do you like it?)
  • Better conversions on our new estimate request form. A visitor filling it out has a much better experience and we get a better data set with each submission. We can get back to you on your project quicker!

We’d love to hear what you think, and if your business is in need of a website facelift let us know!

Speaking of customer service…

If you missed our last e-blast scroll down a bit and check out the post titled, “Real Life Customer Service Tales”. Since we sent that out we have managed to train Tugs to be our new phone wizard. He’s been getting quite pooped.

It's fool-proof! If the phone rings, I'll wake up!

If you havent been to the rest of our site lately...What else? Our portfolio is continuing to grow. You should be sure to take a look at some of the slick design work that has been happening around GCI.

Bottom line? Don’t be a square! Click the GCI logo at the top of the page and get ready for some awesomeness.

The Art of Advertising

We do everything advertising day-in day-out and we love our jobs! And sometimes we really let our creative juices flow just for the fun of it. Check out these neat and totally original wallpaper graphic designs created by our staff. If you see one you like, download it and give your desktop a little GCI sizzle. It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. To use any of these wallpapers click on your desired resolution (not sure which? 1600×1200 is a pretty safe bet for most monitors).
  2. Once the image fully loads in a new window right-click and select ‘set as desktop wallpaper’ or some similar option (may vary from browser to browser).
  3. Voila! New desktop hotness, straight from our brains to your computer! Hooray!

Enjoy! -The Team

can we keep him?

It’s been a little quiet here on the GCI blog lately. It’s mostly because we’ve been so busy rocking projects and soaking up the sun that we just haven’t been able to find the time to post. With this recent heat wave however I’ve been finding myself indoors a bit more… and so has this little guy.

tugs can we keep him?

He’s cute, he’s fluffy, his name is Tugs and he thinks your feet are mice, no seriously he’ll eat your toes.

He’s been a little bundle of energy around the office and great at helping us keep our desks clear of… well, anything that can move he wants to play with… so everything. So cute!

Oh feel free to drop by and see him, also we have A/C!

Golly Gee

Did everyone see the cute smart nerdy little money pig in the “g-whiz” e-blast we sent out today?? I think all of the lucky ducks who did would have to agree that it was super adorable.

GCI sends out great e-blast messages. If you’re not on the e-mail list and want to be (since it’s no fun feeling left out) then you should send an e-mail request to “the team” or use our contact form. Keep in mind, the e-blasts come with some awesome stuff that doesn’t show up in our blog or site and I don’t mean farm animals (though I am still crazy about that little piggy). No,we’re talking really helpful tips!

-Jenny

(P.S. If you need help getting your own e-blasts going we can help with that too.)

crash, boom!

So there we were, minding our own business when a loud boom and honk was heard. Accidents in the intersection outside our building aren’t all that uncommon, but this one was something special.

Thankfully no one was hurt, and we all learned a valuable lesson about gravity, friction, and the proper use of tie-downs.

It’s Alive!

Launching this new website is almost like waking up on January 1st, or graduating high-school. There’s so much possibility ahead of us, the future is wide-open and it’s all tremendously exciting!

So without getting too emotional, the Team at GCI would like to extend our warmest of welcomes to you!

Everyone on the Team will be contributing to this blog and we hope it serves as a place of inspiration for our visitors, and an open forum to discuss everything advertising. Maybe we’ll even discuss a couple things that aren’t (like who keeps hogging all the coffee mate creamer)!

We invite you to join in the discussion by leaving comments and feedback for us on our posts and getting in touch with us via the contact page.

We look forward to our future, and hope you will be a part of it!

–Paul
