BOO!

For those of you not familiar with Paul Thomas, he is a kick-butt designer, photographer, and web developer; and luckily for us, he has been with GCI for a little more than a year now.

Follow Paul’s lead and you’ll have the bad-economy monster running scared:

1) Reinvent yourself as needed. You are so much more than any one skill. When it’s logical, offer more interconnected services to your customers.

2) Keep doing an awesome job. As things change it is good for your customers to know they can always depend on you for quality work, an impressive turn-around, and a professional attitude.

3) Focus on how great it is to be doing what you do. When things are stressful it is be easy to feel jaded. Passion and enthusiasm for what you do is great for your endorphins (and your customers will appreciate it).

4) Remind people that you are still around and want to help. It can be as simple as a message like this or a phone call.

5) IF ALL ELSE FAILS… Get cast in a movie that provides scary props, like monster teeth. No one will mess with you, especially that would-be-tough, bad-economy monster.

Shopping locally is EASY with choices like these!

Easy options:

Get your groceries from Ralph’s/Bayview Thriftway, the Co-ops, or the Farmers Market.

Go shopping at Archibald Sisters, Childhoods End Gallery, Wind-up Here, or The Sofa Gallery.

Dine at the Farmer’s Market, Budd Bay Cafe, Oyster House, Sorrento Restaurant, Mercato, Riccardo’s, Lemon Grass, Quality Burrito, or Dockside Bistro

For fun try an outing to the Percival Landing area where you can enjoy the market. Frolic and cool off in the water fountain followed by a great sandwich from Traditions Cafe, then stroll along Percival Landing and end up at Bayview Thriftway for gelato and a 5-star view of the bay from their upstairs dining area. Look for wine tastings at The Wine Loft, Check out live entertainment at Harlequin Productions, Olympia Little Theatre, and The Washington Center. Attend Music in the Park, take a tour of the state capitol, visit the Hands-on Children’s Museum, or Olympic Flight Museum.

We have all sorts of specialties stores in the South Sound. Patronizing locally-owned businesses keeps the economy kicking.
(GCI is proud to use local vendors wherever possible!)

The Crisis of Credit

Ran across this animation on Digg.com last night. It’s a fantastic example of how elegant infographics and clear intent and explanation can make even the most complex and serious issues at least somewhat understandable.
